Dame Kiri is considered one of the world’s great opera singers.  If there is an opera stage of repute, she has graced it.  She has a slew of honorary degrees and has set up a development fund from her fortune to provide musical training to young New Zealanders.  And I gleaned all that from Wikipedia.

All you monarchists may remember her singing “Let The Bright Seraphim” and Charles’ and Diana’s wedding in 1982.  This video isn’t from the wedding, but you get the jist of it from this.

To keep things not entirely obscure, here is her singing Ave Maria.

All things New Zealand classical music begin and end with Dame Kiri.  This is my prelude to tomorrow’s post.
