A lot of New Zealand artists head to Australia once they start getting famous because of the strength of the industry there (basically, all Aussie and NZ rock is professionally produced in Melbourne, with the next nearest “legendary” studios being in London, New York or LA).  One irritant to Kiwis is to suggest that Crowded House, who are playing in Toronto this week, are an Australian band.

But no, they are from the North Island (the Finn brothers who organized the band are from a rural town effectively west of Hamilton which itself is southeast of Auckland) and relocated to Melbourne.  Their lineup has often featured Australians, with a couple of Americans as well.  They are legendary rockers.

The song of theirs that is always on the radio is the oft-covered “Fall at Your Feet.”

I have also chosen “Weather With You” because I’m presuming the video was filmed in New Zealand.

The Finn brothers, who coordinated/headlined this band, are New Zealand musical legends.  There will be more Finns tomorrow, and their offspring later on this month.
