See, I’m listening to the new releases radio program on The Rock tonight to get inspired and they are playing awesome American (new Weezer) and Australian (I am promoting Operator Please to my audiophile friends as of late) music instead of Kiwi artists. That’s okay; I’ll post a new New Zealand band on Tuesday.

I’m going to retreat to two of THE most classic bar songs ever in New Zealand. Back home, you can count on Bryan Adams’ “Summer of ’69” and…um…how can I be blanking on classic Canadian bar songs? “Sudbury Saturday Night” at a classy bar, probably some The Tragically Hip elsewhere.

The (THE) classic New Zealand bar song is by Dave Dobbyn‘s first big band, Th’ Dudes. Watch as the lead singer (Ian Morris) gets more and more drunk and neck-veiny as the video progresses…how many takes were required to finish this video? Also, look out for the discontinued dollar bills being exchanged at the bar.

Personally, I prefer “Be Mine Tonight,” which has featured in every New Zealand television show and movie ever made. Driven home by Dave Dobbyn, you can see where Jon Heder no doubt found his Napoleon Dynamite influence.
